What is Zytiga: Side Effects, Dosage, How to use

What is Zytiga?

ZYTIGA (abiraterone acetate) is an inhibitor of CYP17 (17a-hydroxylase/C17,20-lyase) is a prescription medicine that is used along with prednisone. ZYTIGA is used to treat men with prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It also reduces the levels of the sex hormone testosterone.

Zytiga (abiraterone) works by reducing androgen production in the body. Androgens are male hormones that can promote tumor growth in the prostate gland.

This medication is mainly used together with steroid medication (prednisone or methylprednisolone) to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

Zytiga is used in men whose prostate cancer cannot be treated with surgery or other medicines.

You might have abiraterone if:

other hormone treatments are no longer working

you have had docetaxel chemotherapy

You might also have abiraterone as part of a clinical trial for early stage prostate cancer.

Also know that this medication should not be given to women or children.
